Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris

Plot

A widowed cleaning lady in 1950s London falls madly in love with a couture Dior dress, and decides that she must have one of her own.

My Thoughts

This was a variation on the Cinderella story. I liked a lot of how it was done. The young beautiful Dior model wanted to be known for more than her looks. Ada Harris didn't want to be dismissed as nothing more than she was. She thought she was being romanced by the rich Parisian when in fact she reminded him of his school cleaner.
In reality Ada was down to earth and had a bit of a business brain, or at least the ability to recognise when somebody else had a good idea. Part way through I actually thought she was going to stay in Paris but in fact it was better than that. The end story of what happened to the dress and what Dior did next was a lovely touch. Even better, once she got to wear the dress she was completely unchanged by it. She simply wanted to wear Dior for her personal pleasure and had no need to be seen in it beyond her circle.
