My Thoughts
Superficially this was pleasant viewing. It was a bit like Agatha Christie light. There were some excellent cast but equally some stereotyping which didn't always work. For instance the BBC has a recent habit of making out the aristocracy to be idiots. Yes at the same time we are told Lord Whitfield was born working class. It would be great it production companies could just tell us s story and allow the audience to make a decision about the characters rather than building in the virtue signalling. In general the more the storytelling suggests we should like or dislike a character quite often the opposite can happen.
I will have to make a point of watching dramas from across the decades and try to work out at what point the BBC (and others) switched from providing material for the viewer or reader to appraise to no longer trusting the audience and feeling the need to suggest how you should think or feel. Be it on screen in a drama or factually when sharing the news.
