This was a great series. It was perfect to have a gripping watch when I was stuck in bed feeling rough. What this programme did was highlight perfectly the pro's and con's of assisted suicide. Tom's death was at his own request but was far from peaceful. He pretty much strong armed his friends into helping with it. They knew he was terminally ill though and having watched his friend go through the later stages he couldn't repeat this himself. In the end at his begging, it felt like it was a kindness.

Then it was the turn of Marion and Phil and Ken initially refused. But having seem how much Marion seemed to be suffering they agreed to be with her while she took her own fatal medication. Meanwhile David was away in London at a conference with previous Doctor colleagues as an alibi.

Everything came full circle when Phil happened to speak with Marion's GP at her funeral and discovered the doctor knew nothing of the Dementia. She then used her contacts after a 40 year career in the police to speak to the pathologist who let her know that there was no dementia indicators but Marion was taking a cocktail of drugs that would cause her to display the symptoms of Dementia.

When Phil confronted David he basically admitted to what he had done but pointed out that he was at the conference and Phil and Ken had been with Marion at the end. So even though Marion was the one choosing to die as she couldn't bare loosing herself, she was basically been slowly murdered by her husband. In the meantime Phil a decorated police officer had committed assisted suicide that was really murder.
